Printmaking began in Panniqtuuq (Pangnirtung) in 1973 as part of a project sponsored by the Government of the Northwest Territories and annual collections have been produced with few exceptions. Artists here use a variety of printmaking techniques, but their stencil prints tend to be favoured above the rest. Prints here tend to represent traditional life, especially whaling, but recently have taken a different turn by depicting decidedly contemporary life and events.
